History of a Mother’ Life, towards Change

On January 3-2005, my life, as I once knew it, was forever gone. My 16 year old daughter was discovered dumped next to an industrial dumpster of an apartment building. Days later it was discovered her estranged boyfriend, as well as two other men had transported her body from another location. Since I was a sales representative I lost my job due to the lack of meetings I was able to attend, all because I had three men and 24 hearings to attend. My Goal since my daughter was murdered was to establish a Public Medical Negligence Law; to teach the importance of calling 911. I went as far as I could go with political leaders, who made me feel good that this was what they had been waiting for; someone like me to walk into their office. What strength and Courage it must have taken. Seven year later, the promises made, were never heard from again.

Due to the fact I had no income and bills were coming in that were out of my control; I had to give up my credit in order to pay our rent and our necessities of hydro for warmth. No one came to our aid and we were grieving like never before. When Christmas time came and I could not as much as buy a gift for my grandchildren, I wept like a baby; how could this happen to us. There had to be some sort of financial aid available here in Canada to help in times like this; but there wasn’t. I finally found one; but it was in San Diego California. I found 3 members for my board; opened up a bank account; did all the necessities to have a pay pal for non-profit organization; but my work was all done in vain. I couldn’t get any help and didn’t know enough about sponsorship during that period. No one wanted to share ideas or help. No one wanted to help Surviving parents of Crime.

I finally decided to include all parents who had lost a child through murder and raise awareness and help educate our new generation. M.A.M.A.S of Canada started in March of 2012.  It is a for profit organization to help raise money to make my journey happen throughout Canada. The monies will be used for Vehicle, gas, accommodations, oil changes, food, advertising and the making of brochures and booklets. I do not ask for government funding, as the government is after all who we are disagreeing with. The length of time it will consume is unknown; as I will stay in a City as long as I am needed. I am presently on ODSP while I await a Negligence suit placed against the people involved with her death. At the present, I prepare myself, so I am ready to leave on a moment’s notice and know I have covered everything I need. I have asked for the communities help by holding 2 meetings at the Whitby library. At my first I had my sister and two nieces; at my second I had one lady drive in from Stony Creek and one from Orono.

M.A.M.A.’S first Fundraiser

What I have learned since death visited me is no one wants to talk about it; everyone simply wants you to move on. What I did learn is people love watching shows such as Paranormal Activity and its second sequel; but the biggest craze I have seen in years is The Walking Dead; Zombies walking the streets. I am presently awaiting a reply from Mayor John Henry if the City of Oshawa will help in some way. The details are not quite organized; but it will be ready for June 2-2012. We will be in the downtown core and we will walk 5 km. I will have pledgers taking pledges or donations to help us raise money. I have to wait until April 1  comes to receive money to help print some pledge forms as well as business cards to show that we are a ligate organization. This event will carry a theme that youths love, who I want to send a message to. I am offering a gift prize for the top three best costumes for incentives. I was hoping to have a meal and a dance afterwards, but three years ago, with a non-profit number, I was going to hold a Rally for Victims of Crime; three weeks before the event, I received a letter stating the city had already used up their money for their budget.

I received notice from the City of Oshawa today March 28, 2012 that they would not help me. The City has other isssues they need to spend their money on. The GOOD NEWS is I am booked with The Out Lounge and eatery at 535 King Street W. Oshawa.  My very first fundraiser and I am doing all the marketing, posters, planning, registering, pledging at my pace. Round the clock.

If you are receiving this letter as an editor or media or radio station, please advertise us, one of Oshawa’s biggest thriller event. I pray that this will be the event they have been waiting for, to help me. I have fallen quite a few times; but I always get up and dust off my wings. If this event doesn’t work; something will and I’ll just have to figure that out, when I cross that bridge. This has been a 7 year battle for me; now I am 60; but I won’t let that get in the way. We all love our children; no matter what; but what happened to my daughter was unjust, unfair and wrongly treated.
